WEEK 7

Neuroscience and Art
My only real knowledge to this point on the topic of nueroscience stems from fictional tv shows focused upon hospital drama, for example, Grey's Anatomy or Scrubs. All my dreams of getting a job in the medical field are due to a made up fantasy of what hospital life is from these shows. Then I am faced with reality. Nueroscience is a lot more school, money, and literal brains. That is where my stomach draws the line.

Although I knew neuroscience was hardcore most my knowledge was only gained through binge watching Netflix. I realize that there is even more that goes into. However until reading the articles and seeing the videos,  I never wouldve believed or imagined that art was involved. Throughout this course I have seen how art is truly universal. It takes different forms in each field in coincides with. But art can be used in pretty much anything including: technology, science, and in medicine. So far when we have reviewed examples of art in these subjects we have seen advancements and a positvie relationship with blending art in.

The combination of nanotech and art has opened many doors to study the brain and test its controllability. Professor Vesna touched on the idea of mind control in her videos and wether or not it can truly be achieved. I agree that the mind can be controlled through drugs that nanotechnology has created like LSD. But my opinion differs on how much can we control the mind. There is still so much we don't know. I definitely agree it can be manipulated to some extent. But I feel that the collaboration between art and neurotech can further advance this study to create something to control the mind. However, with that being said, giving drugs "without knowledge or consent" can not be tolerated. This is a very advanced study and it needs to stay professional for it to truly work. I believe if we continue to work with aritsts the neurotech field will continue to advance.

WEEK 2

Math and art seem like two separate subjects that would have nothing to do with one another. But in fact, math is a big part of the art all around us today. Without math our world art would not look, sound, or feel the same. When I look around when I'm walking around our UCLA campus I see math in our art everywhere. Our buildings are beautiful structures of art. But without math, they would not be as beautiful. WEEK 8

Nanotech and Art Each week I discover more and more about the collaborations of different fields and the effects it has on those fields. In every week I have found that the collaboration of art with another field has a significant positive impact. The same goes for nanotechnology and art. Professor Vesna believes that nanotechnology will be "the paradigm shift that is really going to push us over the edge into the twenty-first century" and I also see this as true (Intro video). " Clouds are not spheres, mountains are not cones, coastlines are not circles, and bark is not smooth, nor does lightning travel in a straight line"~ Benoit Mandelbrot "The Blue Morpho Butterfly's wings use nanostructures rather than pigment to produce brilliant blues" Nanotech and art are coming together the most in our everday lives. WEEK 1

Two Cultures: Which One Do You Belong Too? I am do not think I completely belong to either of the two cultures. I am both and intellectual and a scientist. These two groups are very different from each other and many people fall along the middle. It is hard to separate something so big into only two groups. Snow mentions on page 12 that we need further divisions of the group to better fit individuals. These two groups are commonly misunderstood by each other. They have been going back and forth all throughout history and still do today. But both groups are essential to the further development and advancements in our society. Both are present even on our UCLA campus. Both scientists and intellectuals. We see intellectuals with our art and theatre and english majors and also scientist in our medical fields and engineers. They live amongst each other and many people share qualities from both cultures. This reading and this class will help us to better understand qualities and behaviors
