Getty Museum The Getty Museum is a museum of art. When first experiencing this wonderful museum I noticed many aspects that tied in with our course material with how art can be intermixed with many subjects like technology even on accident. This is experienced with the strategic lighting of the exhibits and the three-car, cable-pulled hovertrain funicular . The Getty Center is located in Los Angeles and has only been open to the public for 20 years. J. Paul Getty originally opened the museum as just an expanse off his house, but later expanded further. "The beauty one can find in art is one of the pitifully few real and lasting products of human endeavor." -J. Paul Getty   The Getty Museum is also a good representation of the "Two Cultures" we learned about way back at the beginning. WEEK 9

Space and Art I first read the intro quote by Benoit Mandelbro, "Clouds are not spheres, mountains are not cones, coastlines are not circles, and bark is not smooth, nor does lightning travel in a straight line" and my  immediate thoughts were in agreeance that not many things in this world take perfect shape and that many things are unique. This quote is a good beginning for thinking about space and art ideas intersecting. Space is not perfect and there are trillions of things we still do not know. Space is the unknown just like art. Art takes the form of many different shapes and sizes and we aren't sure what will happen next. A man named, Jeff Foust, wrote an article, "When space and Art Intersect", that agreed that art in its many diverse forms can "provide an emotional connection difficult to duplicate elsewhere." WEEK 8

Nanotech and Art Each week I discover more and more about the collaborations of different fields and the effects it has on those fields. In every week I have found that the collaboration of art with another field has a significant positive impact. The same goes for nanotechnology and art. Professor Vesna believes that nanotechnology will be "the paradigm shift that is really going to push us over the edge into the twenty-first century" and I also see this as true (Intro video). WEEK 7

Neuroscience and Art My only real knowledge to this point on the topic of nueroscience stems from fictional tv shows focused upon hospital drama, for example, Grey's Anatomy or Scrubs. All my dreams of getting a job in the medical field are due to a made up fantasy of what hospital life is from these shows. Then I am faced with reality. WEEK 6

BioTech and Art Biotechnology and Art is one of the most controversal topics today. This spans from debates about GMOs in our food, experiments with animals, to species hybrids. There are two sides to this debate which include the ups and downs of biotechnology.  In biotechnology people work with live cells and are manipulating natural occuring cells and species. I believe the most controversal part of biotechnology today is the GMOs in our food. This was the most interesting peice of biotechnology brought up in our lecture notes for me and so when reviewing some of our resources I focused on food. "Agriculture in the Wild" and "This is your Brain on Food" are websites that represent the controversy in our food today. Since food is something that goes directly into our bodies I believe people put more emphesis on the matter because they think it will effect us more. I also feel that there is a new wave of "eat healthy, feel good" in todays society

Sickly Green My first impression when hearing Liza Grandia's presentation about the disturbing amounts of carpet in the United states was humorous. There is so much carpet in America! I couldnt believe it. But then my impression took a more serious and solemn turn when hearing about how many people suffer from neurotoxins in our carpet that cause diseases and ilness.
