Eco-Centric Art and Science Symposium:

Prophesies and Predictions

At this event Professor Taylor presented a virtual reality experience. This virtual reality took us into the eyes of birds. Still, we cannot fully understand how birds feel about the changing environment reality and the confusion it is causing. But, this reality gives us a much better understanding.

Professor Taylor discussed students in Victoria's virtual reality experience. It is a combination of art design, science, and robotics. This project was meant to create awareness about the effects we have on birds and their environment. But, the special thing about this technique is that it incorporates art and science which is why it relates to our course. Professor taylor mentioned it and I would agree with his opinion that, people are more likely to listen to advice or understand better from a virtual reality experience allowing them to feel like how a bird might, then a text book just telling them we are causing harm. The virtual reality is interactive and leaves a bigger impression. But it can only be achieved from artist who help design, and scientist who can build and test the robots,working together.

This event was very inspiring. I feel like Professor Taylor's thoughts about how art and science can work together to create something that will be more moving for the public is really accurate. I feel like it is difficult for most people to grasp something that is strictly artistic or scientific but I feel like the combination of both allowed me to understand Professor Taylor's argument better that birds are really effected by humans growth changing their habitat.

WEEK 4

Medicine, Technology, and Art  The Material that most influenced my understanding of this topic was the TED Talk by Virgil Wong. Virgil is an artist, technologist, and a researcher and he is using his art to help people's health. We wouldve never thought that art could in fact help people's health, but it does in Virgil's Medical Avatar LLC. I found it interesting in his TED talk how he revealed that people can connect to other people who suffer from similar health problems through this design app that monitors people's health. I feel like this is the most interesting side of how art and medicine can connect in technology, because human relations can be benefited through this connection. WEEK 8

Nanotech and Art Each week I discover more and more about the collaborations of different fields and the effects it has on those fields. In every week I have found that the collaboration of art with another field has a significant positive impact. The same goes for nanotechnology and art. Professor Vesna believes that nanotechnology will be "the paradigm shift that is really going to push us over the edge into the twenty-first century" and I also see this as true (Intro video).
